While I find cleaning the house about as enjoyable as listening to someone scrape their nails down a chalkboard (yikes), we can thank modern technology for making the job easier and maybe even a bit more enjoyable. There are some unique home cleaning gadgets that you can purchase and even a few tools lying around your house which you can put to good use. These handy tools work really well with your natural cleaning products. I am always on the hunt for tools to make the daunting task of cleaning my house a little easier. I hope you enjoy some of my suggestions and I hope you will share a few new ones below in the comments section.
Super Charge Scrubbing
The electric spin scrubber is a handy dandy little gem that makes your scrubbing job a lot easier. The small handheld design makes it easy to manipulate and get into tight spots. It also has a nice extension arm to get those tiles that are out of reach. The 3 different size brushes make it so you can scrub just about any surface, from the grout in the corner of the shower to the tile itself. And the great news is that it’s waterproof so it’s great for showers, sinks, and toilets. It is completely rechargeable and will last 40-60 minutes. It’s just a fun little tool to have and it really does a nice job. It’s one of those enticing little gadgets that my kids want to get their hand on. I’m always happy to take the help. Now if I can just get my boys to separate their underwear from their sweatpants before tossing them in the laundry all will be right with the world!
Mega Brush Set
These little brushes and scrubbers come in a bunch of different shapes and sizes. I love the long, skinny brush to get into the drain of the shower. It’s nice that it comes in a handy dandy little set. These brushes can be used indoors or outside to clean just about everything. I personally love the narrow grout brush. There are 16 different brushes that you can use with all of your natural cleaning products. Brushes are my daughter’s favorite when it comes to helping out. I wonder if she really loves cleaning or that it gives her the right to call her brothers dirty slobs? Kids love to feel helpful and important and there is nothing more satisfying to a little one than when they hare handed something “cool” for the big job!
Cleaning green isn’t only about the cleaning products you are using. It’s important to choose tools that are safe for you and the environment to be used with your cleaners. There are a couple cool silicone products that are safe to be used not only for cleaning, but they are food grade as well. I love this little gadget called BUMP IT OFF, which can be used for a bunch of different things around the house. It’s great for pre-treating stains before putting your clothes into the laundry. I like to use it with the Ecover Stain Remover or a simple castille soap. In the kitchen, it can be used to scrub plates, pots and pans without scratching and without the stink that finds its way onto your sponge! Surprisingly, it also works great in place of your lint brush. It will get pet hair right off your upholstered furniture. And when you’re tired from cleaning, you can use one to gently exfoliate your skin in the shower! Talk about a multi-purpose gadget!
Robotic Microfiber Mop Ball
What the heck is this? I know, it looks totally crazy, but it really is a clever idea, especially if you have pets and lots of unwanted hair that seems to show up no matter how often you vacuum. I was given this as a gift, and it has served me well in the capacity of picking up dust bunnies, but it also doubles nicely as a cat toy! That was not its intended purpose, but there is nothing I like more than multi-function products! It also serves as a great conversation piece, or maybe people will think you’re so strange that they will never come back to your house. You can decide for yourself if that’s a good thing or a bad thing! This fantastic little fuzzball will get in those hard to reach areas, like that deep dark abyss under the couch. Who wants to know what’s under there?!?! And the nicest thing about this product is that there is no need for any cleaning product of any kind and it will run for three hours. Farewell dust bunnies!
The only thing fun about vacuuming is when my puppies go absolutely ballistic and start dancing around the house like two maniacs. The one thing that comes a close second when it comes to puppy entertainment is when my son practices the trumpet and the pups sing along. While my dogs aren’t any more fond of the robotic vacuum than they are of the traditional version, I for one find that it’s a total game changer. I would definitely let my vacuuming go a lot longer if it weren’t for this great gadget. I found a more reasonably priced version by Eufy that I think works great and still manages to have the same puppy entertainment value. This truly is a must have.
Okay, I don’t actually own this next product, at least not yet. I’m thinking this will be a great Father’s day gift for my grill master husband. I currently use a nice eco friendly, wood scraper. I’d love to say it does a great job, but it’s really mediocre at best. So then I came across this neat grill cleaning tool and I think it’s a must try. It called a Grillbot Automatic Grill Cleaner. If anyone has already taken it for a test drive, I would love to hear your feedback. Or if you have another way of cleaning the grill, I would love to know that too. Unconventional Cleaning Tools
Some of the best tools to clean may already be a staple in your home. When my kids are in need of a new toothbrush, I use their old one to clean the grout in my shower and tub. That along with Q-tips helps reach those little cracks and crevices. I usually take a cotton swab and clean out the sink drains where little whiskers from my husband’s beard magically accumulate to form a rather disgusting goopy material. I always keep microfiber towels on hand for wiping just about any surface, but in a pinch, I’m known to grab a baby wipe and wipe the dusty moldings in the bathroom. For some reason, they are a magnet for dust. If you are actually going to use the wipes for their intended purpose (even my elementary aged kids still wipe their bottoms with them) then I would stick with the most gentle and safe ones you can find. I prefer the Seventh Generation Baby Wipes. I also keep spray bottles around to whip up a quick vinegar and water spray to clean around the house.
